Code of Conduct

Cuevas for Yakima County Auditor is a campaign committee controlled by Maria Cuevas, candidate for Yakima County Auditor in 2026. We adopt this Code of Conduct to govern how we treat one another and the public throughout the campaign.
The Campaign adopts, in full, the Code of Conduct of the Washington State Democratic Central Committee, available at wadems.org.

Our Standards
Everyone associated with the Campaign, including the candidate, paid staff, volunteers, contractors, and endorsers, commits to the following:

• Treat every person with respect, professionalism, and civility, regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin, language, immigration status, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, veteran status, or any other status protected by law

• No harassment, discrimination, sexual misconduct, bullying, intimidation, or retaliation

• Engage respectfully across languages and cultures, recognizing that Yakima County is home to diverse communities including a majority Latino population

• Follow Washington campaign finance law and Public Disclosure Commission rules, and never use public resources for campaign purposes

• Protect the confidentiality of voter, donor, and staff information

If You Believe This Code Has Been Violated

1. Document what happened. Write down what occurred, when, where, who was present, and what you did in response. Date and sign your notes and keep them in a secure place. This does not commit you to any further action.

2. Report the concern. Notify the Campaign Manager. You may do so in person, by phone, by email, or in writing. You do not need to specify a desired outcome. If the concern involves the Campaign Manager, report to the candidate directly. If the concern involves the candidate, report to the Confidential Advisor designated by the Campaign, or to the external resources listed below.

3. If the problem persists or is not resolved, continue documenting. Contact the Community Peace Center of Central Washington for confidential mediation, or contact one of the state or federal agencies listed below.

The candidate has final authority for resolving concerns between paid staff or volunteers. If the candidate is involved in the concern, the candidate becomes a party to the concern, and resolution moves to an external channel.

No person will be retaliated against for making a good-faith report under this Code.

Nothing in this Code waives any legal right or prevents any person from reporting suspected unlawful conduct to law enforcement, regulatory agencies, or the courts.
